Google TV Event Shows Off Android-Loaded Logitech Revue Components - Cloud Computing from eWeek: "NEW YORK—Logitech executives convened here Oct. 6 to show off more than a year of hard work developing a companion box, full and mini keyboard controllers and a TV Cam for making high-definition video calling, all for Google TV. Though packed into a tiny show space in Chinatown, Logitech officials offered an impressive demonstration of their products to support the service, which allows users to channel surf and navigate the Web from one keyboard controller, mini controller or iPhone or Android smartphone. Officials for the company easily flitted from one application to search and then to the next application. Then they shifted between TV and Web content all without snags and only minimal latency. The Revue box, which connects easily to TVs at home with an HDMI cable, is preloaded with several applications, including Netflix, Amazon On Demand, Napster, CNBC Realtime, Logitech Media Player and more. The Revue box and Keyboard Controller are available for preorder now from Logitech.com, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com. Delivery is expected by the end of the month. By the looks of a patent filed by the Cupertino, Calif.-based technology giant last week, the same innovative minds that brought us iPod, iPhone, and iPad are now developing a “smart bike.”
According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, www.uspto.gov, Apple filed its patent application, entitled “Systems and Methods for Integrating a Portable Electronic Device with a Bicycle” on August 5. The document outlines the basic parameters for this new, M2M (machine-to-machine)-enabled system, which involves an electronic device—presumably an iPod or an iPhone, though other ideas are listed—receiving output from various sensors coupled to a bicycle."

In coming years, the company plans to deploy a trillion sensors all over the planet.
The wireless devices would check to see if ecosystems are healthy, detect earthquakes more rapidly, predict traffic patterns and monitor energy use. The idea is that accidents could be prevented and energy could be saved if people knew more about the world in real time, instead of when workers check on these issues only occasionally.
HP will take its first step toward this goal in about two years, said Pete Hartwell, a senior researcher at HP Labs in Palo Alto. The company has made plans with Royal Dutch Shell to install 1 million matchbook-size monitors to aid in oil exploration by measuring rock vibrations and movement, he said. Those sensors, which already have been developed, will cover a 6-square-mile area."

Unlike traditional security devices, which are static, these digital ants wander through computer networks looking for threats, such as computer worms — self-replicating programs designed to steal information or facilitate unauthorized use of machines. When a digital ant detects a threat, it doesn’t take long for an army of ants to converge at that location, drawing the attention of human operators who step in to investigate.
The concept, called “swarm intelligence,” promises to transform cyber security because it adapts readily to changing threats.
“In nature, we know that ants defend against threats very successfully,” explains Professor of Computer Science Errin Fulp, an expert in security and computer networks. “They can ramp up their defense rapidly, and then resume routine behavior quickly after an intruder has been stopped. We were trying to achieve that same framework in a computer system.”"
