a laptop stolen that contains invaluable data. And millions more are
stolen from businesses and individuals every year, with only 3 percent
ever being recovered, according to the FBI. Absolute Software of
Bellevue, WA, is trying to improve those odds with Computrace(R)
LoJack(R) for Laptops.
Similar to LoJack for your car, LoJack for Laptops tracks, locates, and
recovers stolen computers. Software installed on a computer silently
contacts the company's monitoring center after a theft report is filed,
and the computer reports its location every 15 minutes through an
Internet connection. The company tracks the location and works with law
enforcement to recover the computer.
Absolute Software also offers the ability to monitor who uses your
computer, what hardware and software changes they make, and to remotely
wipe a stolen computer's files using an algorithm approved by the
Department of Defense.
